"Cognitive neuroscientists grope way in cortex"
May 19, 2001 Dov in biologicalEvolution forum.
Here is another feed-back I sent to Science (of which I am a subscriber), not even acknowledges:
In Science of 13 April 2001 Vol 292, p.196 L.Helmuth's reviews the state of of Object Recognition, reporting several questions yet unanswered such as why people are expert at discriminating faces and why recognition of specific groups of objects are related to specific areas of the cortex.
If I were a cognitive neuroscientist I would expect that the brain of every creature that has eyes would build up a reference library of images/sights from the second its eyes begin to function, in the order that his eyes take them on. Thus faces might be some of the earliest objects it files.
And I would further expect that additional related images/sights would be impressed in the brain in conjuncted location with their earlier references.
And I would further expect that the chronological history and extent and circumstances of the visual impressions of a person or creature might explain many, if not all, aspects of relationship between object recognition and areas of ventral temporal cortex.
